Typically when I eat sushi I'm drawn to the cream cheese, spicy mayo, deep fried side of the menu...so something like nigiri I tend to overlook. It was now the time to go outside my norm and try something new. I decided to go extremely new. I tried the Octopus Nigiri and the Yellow Tail Nigiri. The Octopus had a great bold flavor and was reminiscent of a thin piece of rare steak on a salad. Light but meaty in texture. HIGHLY Recommend! The Yellow Tail was light and refreshing. I actually really love the way nigiri is very pleasant and fulfilling in its own way. I will definitely be making it a point to try at least one nigiri roll anytime I have sushi!
Lastly, I knew I wanted to dessert and the menu had a couple things on it. Initially the Tempura Ice Cream did not stand out. I know ice cream and I know tempura so eh... not sold. We asked our waiter what was his favorite. He said, "Hands down the Tempura Ice Cream." I was surprised. He said, " It is a fried tempura battered green tea ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate sauce." SOLD! I really wish they could tell the wold what you were going to get because the name did not do it justice. The ice cream was super creamy and that tempura shell was crunchy and slightly sweet. Perfect dessert!
I love the way Jaku takes their time on each roll and develops the flavor to its maximum. It is the little touches that makes sushi an awesome experience and I think Jaku has got this down to a science.
